One of my roommates from freshman year graduated with a perfect A average from Princeton. However, he focused entirely on his academic work and during freshman year we had to physically drag him from his room to take a shower and take a break to go to a movie or something once every few weeks. It wasn’t that he was intentionally antisocial; it was simply that he would get so lost in his work that he would lose track of time and day. I remember in the second semester of engineering physics, he hadn’t had time to do one of the chapters, so to answer some of the questions, he simply derived the necessary equations from previous principles before solving the problem.
Funny thing, though. After graduating at the absolute top of his class, we never saw or heard from him again — the rumor was that he had been recruited by one of the defense think tanks and spent his entire career protecting the United States by doing top-security physics and mathematics.
To my knowledge, very few people in the past 50 years have ever matched his perfect grade average
